Sprinkling Regulations

Effective April 1, 2022 sprinkling regulations will be as follows:

NOTE: Upper Genelle is now even days and Lower Genelle is odd days regardless if your house number is odd or even.

  • Regulations are in effect throughout the year.
  • No open hoses at any time.  All hoses in use must have a nozzle or sprinkler attached to the outlet end.
  • Only one sprinkler per household on manually controlled systems can be used at any one time.
  • Automatic underground systems are not to be used in conjunction with manually controlled systems unless approved by the board.
  • A soaker hose is considered the same as an above ground sprinkler.
  • In the event of low aquifer levels, sprinkling regulations Level 2, 3 or 4 will come into effect.  Ratepayers will be notified.  Otherwise, Level 1 applies.
  • All underground systems MUST have a rain sensor and a backflow preventer that is accessible and serviceable.  Maintenance is the responsibility of the homeowner.  Maximum total water consumption is 5GPM (imperial gallons).  Once a new system is in place it should be inspected by the Genelle Improvement District maintenance.
  • Hand watering with a watering can is permitted at any time.  No other hand watering is to be done outside sprinkling hours.
  • Ratepayers in non-compliance of the sprinkling regulations will be penalized.  There shall be one written notice of regulations, which is hereby given to all water users.

           First offence - one written warning.

           Second offence - water shut off.  Disconnection/reconnection fee is $150.00.

LEVEL 1: The 31st of the month is an off day for all residents - absolutely NO sprinkling 

Lower Genelle residents are permitted to sprinkle only on odd numbered days:

- Manual systems from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground systems from 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.

Upper Genelle residents are permitted to sprinkle only on even numbered days:

- Manual systems from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground systems from 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.

LEVEL 2: Lawn and garden sprinkling ONLY - absolutely no driveway and vehicle washing

Lower Genelle residents are  permitted to sprinkle only on Wednesdays and Saturdays:

- Manual systems from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground suystems from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m.

Upper Genelle residents are permitted to sprinkle only on Thursdays and Sundays:

- Manual systems from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground systems from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m.

LEVEL 3: Vegetable garden sprinkling ONLY

Lower Genelle residents  are permitted to sprinkle only on Wednesdays and Saturdays:

- Manual systems from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground systems from 12:00 midnight to 2:00 a.m.

Upper Genelle residents are permitted to sprinkle only on Thursdays and Sundays:

- Manual systems from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

- Automatic underground systems from 12:00 midnight to 2:00 a.m.

LEVEL 4: All outdoor water use is PROHIBITED
